The Alternative Education Center (AEC) is a member of the
Cedar Rapids Community Schools under the direction of the Office of Special
Services.
Sheila Lehman is the Executive Director of Special Services and Jodee Beck is the Associate Director responsible for the AEC.
The AEC facilitates a Level 3 Behavioral Focused program serving High School
students. The focus of the program is to support students with behavioral challenges. Students
are provided a positive environment that allows for self-management of
appropriate school behaviors, and gives students an opportunity to make choices
that will lead them to the goal of returning to their home school building.
Students
are placed at the Alternative Education Center through their home school Child
Study Team. There are four
classrooms in the Level Three program. Each
classroom has a full time teacher and a full time paraprofessional.
There is an average of four students in each room.
